Offshore renewable energy solutions
Renewable offshore energy
In Europe, the North Sea is central to the energy transition, with plans to expand offshore wind capacity tenfold to 300 GW by 2050. Stil, the North Sea is also a valuable natural habitat, an important shipping route, and a source of current and future economic activity.
The significant growth in offshore renewable energy infrastructure can impact biodiversity, and the increased marine traffic adds another layer of complexity to the ecosystem balance. Navigating this complex landscape of diverse – and at times conflicting – interests, Witteveen+Bos provides specialist advice and support across three domains: Engineering and Design, Environment and Ecology and Stakeholder Management and Permitting.
Engineering and Design
We design and engineer offshore wind foundations, energy islands, platforms, tidal infrastructure, cables, and pipelines with all possible types of partners and stakeholders. We excel in collaborative project delivery, bringing together the latest industry know-how thanks to our strong and active connections with research institutes and leading universities. This ensures our solutions remain at the forefront of technological development. From feasibility studies and concept design to detailed engineering, we provide end-to-end expertise tailored to each stage of a project.
Environment and Ecology
We deliver a full suite of studies ranging from baseline environmental assessments and monitoring plans to environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and nature-inclusive design concepts. With our in-depth understanding of marine ecosystems, especially in the North Sea, we identify risks and opportunities for biodiversity and ecosystem services. We always seek collaboration with local partners and stakeholders and tap into our broad international network to integrate local knowledge and the latest scientific developments.
Stakeholder Management and Permitting
We support offshore projects with comprehensive permitting strategies and tailored stakeholder engagement. Our team combines deep knowledge of maritime regulations and legal frameworks with hands-on experience in drafting, coordinating, and submitting permit applications. We facilitate constructive dialogue between clients, authorities, and local stakeholders, always aiming for practical solutions and timely project delivery.
