Brussels Airport’s Hub 3.0 granted environment and planning permit
On 17 December, an environment and planning permit was officially issued by Jo Brouns, Flemish Minister for Environment and Agriculture, for Brussels Airport’s Hub 3.0. The permit represents an important step in the airport’s further development.
Hub 3.0 is a strategic investment project. Its first phase involves expanding the airport’s terminal, increasing the size of its arrivals hall, creating a green boulevard connecting the intermodal transport hub, and building a hotel. These developments will strengthen the capacity, accessibility and quality of the airport’s infrastructure.
The environment and planning permit is the result of over two years’ intensive collaboration between the client, Brussels Airport Company, and a consortium comprising Witteveen+Bos, Benthem Crouwel Architects, OKRA, and Stramien cv.
The permit application required a multidisciplinary approach that included reliable expertise in environmental matters, urban design, rainwater, and ecology. The next step will involve selecting a contractor to carry out the works execution.
